What is a modular seed tray?

You can use polystyrene modular seed trays in conjunction with other nursery trays to create a growing system. You can use reusable seed modules to grow plants like lettuce, spinach and herbs.

Heavy duty seed module trays come with a special lid that helps you control the climate around your seeds. You can use a modular plug tray to start seeds indoors, or you can put them outside in the garden once the weather is warm enough.

You can also use plant module trays as an indoor herb garden or to grow sprouts. Modular trays for plants are made with plastic, so you can reuse them many times. The module planting trays have holes in the bottom, which allows water to drain through and keeps the soil moist.

You can stack seedling modular trays to allow for more room. Reusable module trays have different sizes and shapes, such as round, rectangular, square etc. Most module trays for seeds are made of plastic, but some deep modular seed trays are made of cardboard or paperboard.

The number of plants that you can grow depends on the size of the gardening module trays. For example, you might have three rows of five plants each in one modular seedling tray or six rows of four plants each in another tray.

What plants can be grown in trays?

You can use strong modular seed trays to grow many plants. For example, herbs need very little water and fertilizer when they're grown indoors. You can grow some herbs in a modular seedling tray, including basil, oregano, mint, chives and cilantro (coriander).

You can grow carnivorous plants in trays. Best modular seed trays should have drainage holes at the bottom and excess water will drain away from the roots. You can use a mixture of peat moss and perlite as a growing medium. You should buffer with a small amount of powdered limestone to ensure adequate pH levels.

Some carnivorous plants are susceptible to root rot if overwatered, so check your seed module trays regularly. Water these plants only when the soil has dried out completely. Feed them every two weeks during their active growth period (usually spring through autumn).

You can also grow succulents in module trays, like aloe vera, jade plant and agave. Because their root systems are shallow and their foliage stays close to the ground. They require very little water or fertilizer too and you don't have to worry about overfeeding them.

You can plant potatoes in modular seed trays indoors or outside. They will grow well if you plant them on soil blocks trays, which help them get off to a good start. You can also plant them directly into the ground if you have some places.
